What is MUSIC SAVES LIVES?

About Us:

Music Saves Lives® is the conduit between music, entertainment and important life-saving causes. Since beginning in 2005, the Music Saves Lives® has grown to be a trusted source for young individuals that care and want to learn about life-saving issues.

Our community has found that Music Saves Lives® offers an easy way to give back in the cities they live in and travel to along with connecting to the entertainment they love. MSL has focused its main efforts on blood donation and the marrow registry, reaching out by sharing facts, educating and creating life saving events.

We want to help educate young people about the importance of simple life saving actions they can participate in. These simple efforts, like donating blood or registering for the marrow program, can identifies them as being a contributor to the community they live in.

As an official 501(c)3 nonprofit in the US we are looking worldwide to have one focus, saving lives. We have grown from Southern California to having a National reach and we are looking outside our boarders to spread the MSL goal, A simple plan of saving lives. “Saving Lives Has Never Sounded So Good!”

Our Mission:

Community: To create opportunities for people to save lives with simple contributions and to teach the facts about the effects of what they contribute to. We then bridge their efforts to something special related to music, musical artists and general entertainment.

Industry: We strive to give the music industry and related entertainment industries opportunities for a targeted direction in saving lives and giving back to the community. We aim to create measureable promotions that educate the need to save lives.

Organizations: To work with life-saving organizations by giving them the opportunity to advance their goals as we reach out to college and high school markets. We are educating thousands of students that will be the life saving factor in the future.

2009 focus on the national blood supply Vans Warped Tour ’09 Spring/Summer

Goal to reach 75,000 summer blood donations

Music Saves Lives is an organization that has captured the way college and young teens can best serve their communities. We have created a way to build a new generation of blood donors to support the growing need for a secure blood supply. The need is very real, as homeland security has asked blood banks, nationwide, to have at least 7 days supply of all blood types on hand at all times.

Our nation has begun to deal with the giant influx of baby boomers reaching ages that will require a strong supply. Add to that, we also are reaching new medical milestones giving added years to this large boomer demographic. We are faced with a blood supply that will be stretched drastically at best.

Music Saves Lives has tackled the high school and college markets over the last three years and surprised the healthcare industry with its accomplishments.

1. Out of the over 230,000 MSL related blood donations, we have seen close to 45% first time donors and over 50% of those have donated again within 90 days. Compare this to the national average of 5% repeat donations from first time donors.

2. We have reached a large percent of students that would normally not spend the time to donate increasing the donor base.

3. We have introduced the concept of making blood donation fun and thought of as mainstream.

4. Our summer programs partnered with music tours, like the Vans Warped Tour, have
generated over 65,000 summer donation lowering the number of hospital postponed surgical procedures. Last year over 400 patients were affected by postponed procedures directly due to a supply shortage of the patient’s blood type. This number was down 4% percent from the previous year due to our efforts. (Why Summer Shortages? 25% of the blood supply comes from students nationally. The summer supply drops due to school breaks).

5. One of the most important aspects of what Music Saves Lives does is the way we instill a moral value stressing the importance to give to your community. We promote, not just giving in a time of need, but making it an everyday concept.

Our support can only come from those that have seen the value of our efforts. You or your family may have needed blood in the past and it’s always an unexpected experience. Every 2 seconds in the U.S. someone needs blood. It will be our youth that supports this need in the years to come. Music Saves Lives is making a difference in thousands of lives and with your support, you will see a measurable, life saving, phenomenon unfold as we work hand in hand with blood banks such as the American Red Cross nationwide.

We have a financial goal of $100,000 to sustain our existing programs for 2009. We have a goal of $250,000 to implement a national support program to maintain college and high school clubs on campus and to grow programs in cities with the greatest needs.
